Venue hire at The Place is our social enterprise. We offer a well-managed, high quality, affordable venue for hire. Our facility is well positioned in central Charlestown, located at the bustling business precinct of Charlestown Square, bordering Newcastle. As a social enterprise, all surplus income is directly applied to community strengthening through the direct provision of our programs and services.

Our professionally managed facilities are available for casual and regular hire by individuals, community groups and businesses.

Venue hire at The Place is perfect for large or small private and public functions, including:

Venue hire is available before, during and after business hours, 7 days per week, subject to room availability. We adhere to regular COVID Safe cleaning practices.

Free wireless internet is available at The Place for hirers.
The Place has a range of high quality furniture and equipment available for use. Hire fees apply for some items. Staff are available to assist with technology set-up.
MAXHUB - state of the art interactive conferencing and collaboration technology. Perfect for seamless on-site or hybrid work and events. Available on request at no extra charge.

Community Hall 

The Community Hall is a large, well-equipped space catering for seminars, presentations, ceremonies, film-screenings, birthday parties, corporate and social events. The 200m2 hall has sprung timber floors ideal for dance, drama, martial arts and exercise groups. 
Access to the Community Hall is via the main entry to The Place, or directly from the street via three double doors opening directly into the Hall. The Place's commercial kitchen adjoins the Community Hall and is available for combined or separate hire.

Social Hall 

The Social Hall is well equipped for corporate and social events, training, seminars, exercise, art and craft classes, youth groups and playgroups. The Social Hall has a 100m2 sprung timber floor, a 50m2 vinyl floor ‘wet-area’ and a kitchenette with bar-fridge, double sink, and microwave. 
The room's audio-visual equipment is compatible with various devices such as smartphones, laptops, CDs, DVDs, MP3 players and games consoles.
A pool table, and table tennis table are available in the Social Hall storeroom. Toddler sized tables and chairs are also available in the Social Hall storeroom.
'The Haven' adjoins the Social Hall, and is available for combined or separate hire.
Access to the Social Hall is via the main entry to The Place, or directly from the street

The Haven

The Haven is a 25m2 carpeted room suitable for meetings, interviews and training days for small groups. The Haven adjoins the Social Hall and is an ideal break out space if both rooms are hired together. WIFI is available in the room.

Commercial Kitchen

With a 6 burner gas stove and oven, commercial dishwasher, microwave, fridge and freezer, the commercial kitchen at The Place is an ideal space for catering and food preparation, cooking lessons and hospitality training.
Servery access to the Community Hall from the Kitchen is available through a roller-shuttered window when the Kitchen and Community Hall are hired together.
Access to the Kitchen is via the main entry to The Place.

Semi-permanent Office Space

The Avenue is a private, carpeted, furnished, fully accessible and serviced office space. The well-appointed room accommodates up to 3 people and is available for semi-permanent hire.

Catering

Catering by The Place

The Place team can assist with catering for your event during reception hours.
Please let The Place know your catering requirements at least 1 week prior to your event.

Self-catering

Hot-water urns, coffee mugs and teaspoons are available on request.
Hirer’s are welcome to self-cater for their events and to engage external caterers.
The commercial kitchen at The Place is available for hire.

Alcohol

Events with alcohol may be permitted at The Place, subject to the terms of our limited licence and our conditions of hire.

Rates & Staff

The Place has a unique pricing structure. As a social enterprise, all surplus income is directly applied to the provision of services or offering reduced venue hire rates to community organisations. 
By choosing The Place, businesses contribute to their Corporate Social Responsibility. For every hour that The Place receives the Business Rate, we can offer one hour of the Assisted Rate to an unfunded group, fulfilling and supporting a community need. 
We balance business and social outcomes with the use of a three-tiered pricing structure. The Community Rate is increased by 50%, creating a competitive Business Rate and reduced by 50% to create the Assisted Rate.

Business Rate

Venue hire rate for groups that are registered businesses or government departments. (Business Rate may be negotiated if the business or government department enters into a partnership with The Place to support the organisation in reaching its social and community objectives). 

Community Rate

Venue hire rate for all groups excluding those that are defined under Business Rate.  
Note: Groups that are Unfunded Community Groups (excluding political or religious groups) or Community Groups working in partnership with The Place to support us in reaching our social and community objectives, may apply to the manager in writing for a reduced venue rate.

Staffing:

The Place staff may be available to staff your events. Staffing is charged at a per hour rate.
